VISION:

The Montessori Children’s School will strive to continue to be a community leader in early childhood education, serving children from 3 years to 6 years of age and their families, following the philosophy of Maria Montessori. The school, comprising of the teachers, head of school and the board of directors, will create a community that will guide the children to the development of their fullest potential.

MISSION:

The mission of the Montessori Children’s School is to offer each child the opportunity to develop independence, empathy and a love of learning, through a carefully prepared environment, Montessori-trained teachers and intentional routines and structures.

Through the school community and our indoor and outdoor spaces, we will guide the children to build positive relationships with themselves, others and their environment.

VALUES:

At the Montessori Children’s School, we have designed a program to foster the innate values of confidence (independence), kindness (empathy) and curiosity (a love of learning) in our children.

Confidence: We believe that children are able to overcome challenges and take on risks when they are confident, in their actions and their words. This confidence starts with the ability to take care of their own needs and then move onto addressing the needs of others and their environment. At our school, we strongly believe in teaching children independence: helping them listen to their own bodies and have the tools and skills at hand to meet their needs. This strong relationship with oneself is essential as they take their first steps of formal education at our school.

Kindness: Building relationships with one another is the next crucial step to success. It begins with understanding emotions, in oneself and others, and to think critically about one’s actions and words that cause these emotions. At our school, we spend time explicitly teaching emotions, communication and how one might help a friend in need.

Curiosity: The third value is to foster and sustain the innate curiosity that children have of the world around them. Through our cosmic education, children begin to understand their place in the universe and on our earth. Through our natural setting and time spent outdoors, children understand the cyclical nature of seasons and the relationships between living things in our environment. Through our cultural studies, they begin to form an identity of themselves and learn about similarities and differences with all the people around them.
